911 Gives Hope is a group of Police Officers, Firefighters and Paramedics dedicated to improving the lives of children and people with disabilities in the local community. 911 Gives Hope is a non-profit corporation. No members of 911 Gives Hope receive any type of salary and 100 % of all money donated goes directly to local charity that involve children and people with disabilities. To date 911 Gives Hope has raised over $160,000 for local children’s charities. 911 Gives Hope has two major projects that it supports in addition to donating to over 40 other organizations. We are also currently raising money to build a Group Home for persons suffering from Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). 911 Gives Hope is also committed to maintaining “Kids Kingdom” in Evansville. Prader-Willi Syndrome Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder that causes the person afflicted with it to have a constant feeling of hunger. No amount of food will every stop this hunger. If left unsupervised a person with Prader-Willi Syndrome would literally eat until they died. 1 in every 10 to 15 thousand babies are born with PWS. People with PWS require very specific and constant care. Currently there are no group homes in the Tri-State dedicated specifically to people with PWS making it very difficult for them to enjoy any form of safe, functional living. In fact there are very few homes nation-wide that are specifically for people with PWS. 911 Gives Hope was formed, in part, to build a group home(s) in the Evansville area for people with PWS. Plans are currently being drawn for the first PWS group home and will be available on this site soon! |
